Platform to be Launched for Effective Donor Coordination

On June 1, 2021, the Minister of Education and Science of Georgia hosted the online Donors’ Coordination Meeting. The purpose of the meeting was to establish efficient communication and coordination mechanism for better alignment of the donor engagement with the Ministry’s strategic priorities. The proposed donor coordination mechanism will serve as a platform to discuss developments in the education sector,  present ongoing programs by donors and participants, clarify financial investment needs and promote new project ideas for donor support.

Mikheil Chkhenkeli, Minister of Education and Science of Georgia thanked international donor organizations acting in the sector of education. He talked about the importance of human capital development and underlined the donor support and participation in this process.

Mikheil Chkhenkeli: “Government of Georgia has the very important responsibility to equip its every citizen with necessary skills and ensure equal access to quality education. Human capital development is our main goal as it is the precondition for country’s long-term economic growth”.

Minister pointed out that the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia is working on development of  Education and Science Strategy 2022-2032 and action plan. The document is focused on quality education and management improvement. The Minister said that participation of donor organizations in the strategy development is very important. The support in the process is provided by the World Bank. Highly qualified local and international experts are involved in developing the document. The experts were selected through an international tender according the WB regulations within the scope of the I2Q project.

Representatives of the World Bank, European Union, EBRD, UNICEF, USAID, GIZ, Goethe Institut, British Council, French Institute and other international organizations participated in the meeting.
