BSMA – Implementation of teaching mechatronic systems at Undergraduate (Bachelor’s) and Master’s learning levels and also at Vocational levels in educational programs of BSMA

LEPL Batumi Maritime Academy (BSMA) has received the first grant from the Competitive Innovation Fund (CIF). The main objective of the CIF-funded project is to introduce the teaching of mechatronic systems (the combination of electronic and mechanical/hydraulic/pneumatic systems) at various levels of education. Students are expected to be able to maintain mechatronic systems, collaborate with colleagues during repairs, select appropriate working resources and methods, and operate according to the optimal operating plan.

The BSMA team has successfully implemented the project. To achieve the main goal, the Academy acquired educational laboratory stands/benches, established a mechatronics laboratory, and, with the assistance of Turkish partners, retrained the academic staff. Currently, a series of training sessions is underway at BSMA, which involves the practical use of the aforementioned stands in undergraduate and master’s programs. In addition to the academic staff, the training sessions are also intended for students of the Maritime Academy.

As part of the project, BSMA has created a lecture course titled “Basics of Mechatronics,” which will be introduced as an optional module in undergraduate engineering programs. The Academy is also working on the “Mechatronic Systems” lecture course, which will be aimed at master’s programs.

It is also important to note that within the framework of the project, the vocational educational program “Electricity” for basic vocational and secondary vocational qualifications (level III and IV) will be prepared for accreditation.

The dissemination of the project results is crucial for the BSMA team. For this purpose, within the framework of the project, such activities as participation in local and international conferences on mechatronic systems and the publication of scientific articles on implementation are being carried out.

The final results of the project will be announced in February 2025.
