Second Grant Competition

Integrating Advanced AI Infrastructure and International Collaboration in CS and Math Curriculum

Beneficiary: Kutaisi International University (KIU)

Project Name: Integrating Advanced AI Infrastructure and International Collaboration in CS and Math Curriculum

Implementation Dates: 06/2024 – 12/2025

Total Project Cost: 293,485.5 GEL

Grant Amount: 275,385.5 GEL

Description

The AI3C project aims to integrate advanced AI infrastructure and international collaboration into the Computer Science and Mathematics curriculum at KIU. The project is structured around four main goals:

  1. Infrastructure Enhancement – KIU aims to upgrade the university’s existing computing infrastructure to include workstations capable of handling advanced Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) tasks. As a result of the project, AI and ML Lab will be established at KIU. This will provide our students with the necessary tools to explore and innovate in these rapidly evolving fields.
  2. Curriculum Integration – In collaboration with the Forschungszentrum Jülich IAS 8, INM 4, and joint Biomedical Imaging Lab in Kutaisi, it is planned to enrich the curriculum by introducing elective courses that focus on AI and Machine Learning and their applications in biomedical imaging.
  3. International Internship Supervision – KIU intends to establish a joint internship program with renowned international partners, Forschungszentrum Jülich IAS 8 and INM 4. This program will provide 16 KIU students with a unique opportunity to gain valuable global exposure and practical experience highly sought after in the industry, spanning the project’s lifespan.
  4. Collaborative Thesis Supervision – Joint bachelor thesis/capstone project supervision program with Forschungszentrum Jülich IAS 8 and INM 4 is proposed.

Sustainability

The computational equipment, a workstation designed for tackling AI and ML problems, acquired as part of Goal 1 with the CIF grant funding, will be stationed at the KIU campus. It will be maintained through the combined efforts and resources of KIU and our partner, KUCA.

KIU is committed to the ongoing development and modification of elective courses, as part of Goal 2, within the bachelor’s programs of computer science and mathematics throughout the academic terms. This commitment includes the allocation of necessary resources such as continuous support for current instructors and the recruitment and training of new ones as required.

In partnership with its international counterparts, KIU will actively enhance course content based on the feedback and course evaluations from students and faculty, adhering to the requirements of quality assurance standards.

KIU is steadfast in its commitment to provide unwavering support in achieving the objectives of Goals 3 and 4 post-project completion. Through the successful execution of collaborative internships and thesis supervision programs, we aim to motivate INM4, IAS8, and other potential partners to co-fund similar initiatives in partnership with KIU.
