The ECE Component Lead Summarized the Results of the Oiloting of School Readiness Programs in the Adjara Region
The Early Childhood and Preschool Education Component Lead of the I2Q Project visited the Adjara region on June 26-27, 2025, to evaluate pilot groups of the updated school readiness program. This assessment took place in public schools located in the villages of Zemo Akhalsheni in the Khelvachauri district and Tsoniarisi in the Keda district.
To support the implementation of the school readiness groups, sets of children’s reading materials and educational toys purchased by JICA were delivered to both villages, with the support of the Ministry of Education, Science and Youth of Georgia.
Educational toy sets and books are fully aligned with the updated school readiness program, including children’s scientific equipment, which will help develop children’s research and discovery skills. They include children’s scientific equipment designed to help develop research and discovery skills. The toys also encourage interest in basic mathematical concepts and aim to enrich children’s vocabulary.
During the visit, the ECE Component Lead engaged with directors of local kindergarten associations, methodologists, and parents to learn about the outcomes of the pilot programs. He also gathered feedback from educators of the school readiness groups regarding current challenges and needs. The discussions included future plans, the enrollment of new students for the upcoming academic year, and other important issues.
Educators reported that children who transitioned to school readiness groups due to overcrowding in kindergartens revealed improved skills and demonstrated quicker developmental progress.
Additionally, the ECE Component Lead attended the graduation ceremony of a kindergarten in the village of Kedkedi, also in the Khelvachauri district.
The school readiness program aims to enhance access to preschool education for children ages 5-6..
The updated school readiness program focuses on promoting holistic development, including social, emotional, motor, and research skills, while fostering curiosity and creativity. The program emphasizes hands-on learning and values all areas of a child’s development equally.
