The TSU and IBSU Joint Master’s Program “Computational Social Sciences for Development” will welcome students starting in 2025

The project “Computational Social Sciences for Development” (CSS4D) received funding through the I2Q Project Competitive Innovation Fund (CIF) grant competition in 2023. The initiative is being implemented by a consortium that includes Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU), Akaki Tsereteli Kutaisi State University (ATSU), International Black Sea University (IBSU), and Linköping University.

The main objective of the project was to develop a joint Master’s program – Computational Social Sciences for Development – in the interdisciplinary program at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences of TSU and the School of Education, Humanities and Social Sciences of IBSU. This innovative program is unique, as it has not been implemented in any higher education institution in Georgia.

The CSS4D project wrap-up event took place at Tbilisi State University on January 23. Attendees included representatives from universities, the World Bank, the I2Q project, and foreign consultants.

During the event, the achievements of the project were discussed, including the master’s degree program curriculum, internship concepts, partnership formations, and sustainability efforts. The participants also addressed challenges encountered during the project’s implementation and evaluated the outcomes.

It was highlighted that the development of a joint master’s degree program between TSU and IBSU has fostered interdisciplinary cooperation, academic innovation, and the creation of new teaching and learning opportunities.

The program is set to admit students starting in the 2025-2026 academic year. Participants will learn techniques for analyzing various social phenomena using modern digital technologies. The curriculum will combine theoretical and practical training modules, designed to meet labor market demands and student needs.
