IBF Expertise S.A. Presents another Bi-Annual Progress on General Education Development to Stakeholders
On April 4, 2025, IBF Expertise S.A. summarized the ongoing efforts in general education as part of the Innovation, Inclusion, and Quality Project – Georgia I2Q (WB) during the fifth seminar. The primary objective of the event was to assess the progress made over the past six months within the general education component of the I2Q project and to present future plans.
Key attendees included Giorgi Modebadze, the First Deputy Minister of Education, Science, and Youth of Georgia; Ana Berdzenadze, World Bank Education Specialist and Task Team Leader; and Chiara Minelli, Project Manager at IBF Expertise S.A.
The main part of the event focused on discussing the results achieved over the past six months. John Henly, an Education Management Specialist and International Team Leader, presented a summary report detailing the progress made in key thematic areas of the project. He highlighted recommendations for school improvement, the practical analysis of school assessments, continuous formative assessments, and data management. Henly also discussed the advancements made toward developing the national assessment system and progress in the STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) direction. As part of the I2Q Project, IBF Expertise S.A. successfully created and implemented STEAM extracurricular programs in 200 schools across Georgia, providing them with educational kits and appropriate furniture. Additionally, special STEAM labs have been established in 13 schools across different regions, actively engaging students.
Following the overview of the past six months’ work, experts involved in specific thematic areas provided detailed presentations on relevant topics. Science Assessment Specialist Newman Burdett reviewed Whole School Improvement, while School Management and Improvement Specialist Ligita Grigule discussed whole school assessment practices and feedback received from schools. In the data management session, Assessment Specialist Sarah Sharratt shared results from the pilot program and the progress made toward creating a relevant data management manual. National Assessment Specialist Eduardo Cascallar addressed ongoing work and future plans concerning the national assessment.
The second part of the event featured a panel discussion on school-based professional development opportunities. Principals from pilot public schools in Khaishi village of Mestia Municipality, Zestaponi No. 6, Samtredia No. 2, and Oni Simon Skhirtladze participated in this discussion.
These principals shared practical examples of how the initiatives under the I2Q project’s general education framework have contributed to the professional development of teachers at their schools.
At the conclusion of the seminar, John Henly summarized the discussions and outlined the next steps, focusing on key activities planned for the upcoming six months within the general education component of the I2Q project.
Similar seminars are held twice a year to report on the work conducted by IBF Expertise S.A. in the field of general education.
The general education component of the I2Q project is focused on improving the quality of teaching and learning in general education. The ongoing work within its framework includes: improving educational infrastructure in target schools, supporting the implementation/expansion of programs focused on strengthening school capacity, supporting the development of teachers’ and school administration’s capacity, and facilitating the development of a national assessment system. The international consortium IBF Expertise S.A. is working in this direction within the framework of the agreement – “Promoting the Quality of Teaching and Learning in General Education”
