The Project “Collaborative Development and Implementation of Engineering Educational Programs using Remote Laboratories“ Currently in Progress
The implementation of the project “Collaborative Development and Implementation of Engineering Educational Programs using Remote Laboratories”, funded within the framework of the second grant competition of the I2Q Project Competitive Innovation Fund (CIF), is in its active phase. The project is being carried out by a consortium that includes Georgian Technical University (GTU), Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University (BSU), and Iakob Gogebashvili Telavi State University (TESAU).
At the end of May 2025, a seminar took place at both Georgian Technical University and Batumi State University. During this seminar, BSU students had the opportunity to work remotely on a SCADA system (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) for the first time at the GTU laboratory, guided by GTU academic staff.
Within the framework of the project, the GTU academic staff met with the students and professors from BSU who were involved in the experiment. During this meeting, the project researchers presented physical samples of the laboratory equipment to the audience. It is noteworthy that the introduction of new courses and the use of advanced technologies in the educational process significantly enhanced student motivation.
As a result of the project, the learning environment will be improved at all three participating universities. Students at all educational levels from the regional universities will have the opportunity to conduct laboratory experiments remotely from specially equipped computer classrooms at their respective universities.
The project is progressing as planned: laboratory equipment has been purchased, including an Internet of Things (IoT) system for managing technological processes, which has been installed at GTU. Students from BSU and TESAU will have the chance to engage with this equipment remotely. Furthermore, educational programs have been updated and technical infrastructure has been improved at all three universities, while training sessions for academic and support staff are currently underway.
