Implementation of Teaching Mechatronic Systems at Undergraduate (Bachelor’s) and Master’s Learning Levels and also at Vocational Levels in Educational Programs of BSMA.
Beneficiary: LEPL – Batumi State Maritime Academy
Project Name: Implementation of Teaching Mechatronic Systems at Undergraduate (Bachelor’s) and Master’s Learning Levels and also at Vocational Levels in Educational Programs of BSMA.
Implementation Dates: 08/2023 – 01/2025
Total Project Cost: 302,285.55 GEL
Grant Amount: 283,540.55 GEL
Description
The main goal of the project is to introduce the teaching of mechatronic systems (a combination of electronic and mechanical/hydraulic/pneumatic systems) at different levels of education and to improve the quality and international competitiveness of higher education in the maritime field. As a result, the student should develop the skills of servicing mechatronic systems, selecting necessary resources and necessary methods during repair, and acting with an optimal work plan, and this, in turn, leads to the development of students’ skills according to the requirements of the labor market and the training of competitive specialists.
Activities
The BSMA team is successfully implementing the project: in order to achieve the main goal, teaching laboratory stands were purchased, a mechatronics laboratory was organized and with the help of Turkish partners, academic staff was trained. A series of trainings is being conducted in BSMA, which serves to introduce the practice of using the above-mentioned stands in undergraduate and graduate educational programs. In addition to academic staff, trainings are also intended for students of the Naval Academy. Within the framework of the project, BSMA has developed a lecture course “Fundamentals of Mechatronics”, which will be introduced as an optional module in undergraduate engineering programs. Work continues also on the lecture course “Mechatronic Systems Management”, which will be intended for master’s programs. It should also be noted that the professional training program “Electricity” (basic and secondary levels) was developed and presented to the National Center for Education Quality Enhancement for accreditation within the project. With project results’ dissemination purposes, such activities as participation in local and international conferences and publication of scientific articles on the introduction of mechatronic systems are carried out within the project.
Sustainability
Batumi State Maritime Academy has a good experience of increasing the number of students who wish to study by improving the material and technical base. With the purchase of new training stands within the project, it will be possible to improve the technical base and improve the skills of students in the operation/service of automated control systems. Further improvement of the created laboratory base should be done by purchasing the necessary laboratory stands for improving the service/improvement skills of robotic industrial lines. Together with the existing and updated base, it will be possible to create a technical training center, which will help to train personnel with professional skills (mechatronics engineer technician) in demand in the employment market. It will also be planned to implement the V-level electrical professional program, which gives the graduate the highest professional qualification in mechatronics.
