Georgian HEIs to be Financed with 2.2 million US dollars for Implementing Joint International Degree Educational Programs

Giorgi Amilakhvari, the Minister of Education and Science of Georgia held a working meeting with the representatives of the higher education institutions. They discussed the priority fields and themes of the second grant proposal.

Mr. Amilakhvari noted that the CIF grant proposal provides financing to Georgian universities with 2.2 million US dollars for the implementation of double-degree higher education programs in cooperation with European and American universities. Giorgi Amilakhvari: “We have important news for higher educational institutions – we have launched and announced the second grant competition of the Competitive Innovation Fund, within the framework of which 2,200,000 US dollars will be provided for HEIs directly, to develop joint international degree education programs in collaboration with European and USA universities. It will contribute to gaining knowledge, new experience, and new qualified personnel to Georgia in the fields that are most deficient today and needed by our country.
It is the first fulfilled promise we made for promoting the internationalization of universities, and it is a unique opportunity to create several dozen high-quality and valuable programs in Georgia. It will primarily bring additional knowledge to both Georgian students and foreigners.”

The Competitive Innovation Fund (CIF) supports and provides grant funding for higher education institutions (HEIs) competitive initiatives with World Bank support in frames of the Innovation, Inclusion and Quality Project. The strategic objective of the Competitive Innovation Fund (CIF) is to foster the modernization of higher education programs and learning environments and to strengthen the labor market linkages.

CIF enables HEIs to develop priority fields and introduce innovative methodology, fully aligning with their strategic development plans that are in line with the national objectives of higher education and government priorities.

The second grant proposal involves the development of the following education programs: Natural Sciences, Mathematics, and Statistics; Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs); Engineering, Manufacturing and Construction; Agriculture, Forestry, Fisheries and Veterinary; Education; Health and Welfare.

The funding window is open from the 28th of September, 2023, till the 24th of November (23:59), 2023. Detailed information about the second grant proposal is available on the I2Q Project web page.
