Telavi State University Hosted International Student Camp

Representatives of the I2Q Project Competitive Innovation Fund (CIF) attended the closing ceremony of the International Student Camp at Iakob Gogebashvili Telavi State University (TESAU).

The camp, focused on agrotechnology, took place at TESAU from December 8 to 12, 2025, as part of the CIF-funded project “Integrating Innovative Agricultural Technologies into Educational Programs” (IIATEP). A maximum of 50 students from various higher education institutions (HEIs) participated in the event, which featured a diverse program of lectures, presentations, and both practical and field work.

The event began with an analysis of the current state of Georgian agriculture. Representatives of the Georgian Farmers’ Association shared valuable insights, including key facts, data, and challenges facing the sector.

Specialists from local and foreign partner universities delivered presentations on various topics related to digital agrotechnology. These topics included the role of bioinformatics in the development of digital agriculture, the use of drones in agrotechnology, remote sensing, and smart greenhouse management.

Most of the camp focused on the practical application of core technologies. Students actively engaged in two groups, concentrating on both the theoretical and hands-on use of drones and the development of smart greenhouses and associated projects.

One entire day was dedicated to developing applied skills through fieldwork. Students completed tasks involving the practical use of drones and worked on specific components of the smart greenhouse project. Additionally, that day featured a lecture from a foreign expert on bioinformatics.

On the final day of the camp, the participating groups presented their final projects, reflecting the theoretical and practical knowledge they had acquired over the five days. All students were awarded certificates in recognition of their successful participation.

The camp successfully achieved its goal of integrating innovative agrotechnologies into educational programs.

The IIATEP Project was conducted over 18 months and aimed to modernize the Bachelor’s degree program in Agronomy at TESAU, as well as the Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programs in Viticulture and Enology, and the Bachelor’s program in Computer Science at Alte University. The project was implemented through a consortium comprising Telavi State University, Alte University, the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, the Georgian Farmers’ Association in collaboration with Montpellier University.
